I am drawn to Sheila Baird’s paintings because they tell a story. By floating American Indian rock art figures above an urban landscape, she reminds us that the natural world, as revealed through Indian wisdom, is still pervasive. In other paintings of women she captures the joyfulness of being alive. I am also drawn to the beauty of Ms. Baird’s draftsmanship and intense color, which she achieves through the use of oil pastels.
